175 Construction of Drip Irrigation System and Well - Mexico Introduction of very low water usage drip irrigation systems. then natural crop raising technologies to recover the soil destroyed by excessive use of chemical fertilizers in Mexico. Already 25% of Mexicos people live in cities which are unable to provide adequate jobs and living conditions for the influx of people. Farmers in the Nayarit area can grow only one crop a year, and are in danger of being driven off of their land due to rising living costs in this area. It rains for only 4 months a year, and is unpredictable, only following hurricanes. People are fearful of extensive irrigation with conventional high water consumption techniques because the community depends on wells for their drinking water. This year, the two experts we are sending will introduce very low water usage drip irrigation systems. The following year, we hope to introduce natural crop raising technologies to recover the soil destroyed by excessive use of chemical fertilizers which have destroyed the microbiological health of the land, causing the plants to be plagued by diseases, and chemical pollution of the ground water. We hope they can realize a viable future living on their native land, and preventing an exodus to seek jobs in larger cities, abandoning their land to environmental destruction or selling it to outsiders seeking profit at cost of the suffering of these farmers families Mexico
198 Tohoku earthquake Through the grant from Japan Platform, ICA has been working on the community development activities at Shinchi machi and Souma shi, Fukushima pref. Temporary housings will become in use longer than they are originally expected, and the residents of the housings have already been running out of the enough space to keep their own belongings. ICA set up the shared storages at Shinbayashi temporary housing site, Shinchi machi, Fukushima Prefecture. Inside of the aluminum-made storage, hand-made shelves will be made and installed by ICA and the residents. Fishing materials will be given to Souma-Futaba fishery cooperative, which has been preparing to restart its Japan
217 Brobo Demonstration Farm Cote DIvoire Demonstration farming in Brobo, Cote DIvoire 9. Before Renovation: The fence of the experimental farm is simply made of wooden and concretepillars and barbwire. The wooden pillars which were originally set in 1990 have fallen, but more than half the barbwire was left . The main causes of pillar destruction were rotting of wooden pillars and destruction by humans and animals. 10. On this renovation, all the wooden pillars were replaced and the number of concrete pillars was increased to 1/3 of the total number of pillars. The barbwire was stretched tight again. The renovation of the fence of the experimental farm will enable us to grow crops efficiently without their being damaged by humans or animals. We began activities in the 6 villages of Agboville, with three projects which are poultry raising, vegetable cultivation, and agroforestry. 226 Agroforestry and Environmental education in Mulshi Area India Village-developed lift irrigation system in Mulshi Area, India Women are always first in any work! They are waiting to begin the digging work of a sumpwell of the lift irrigation scheme. In the village meeting, it was decided that at least one from each family member needs to participate. More women came because men are in Mumbai doing jobs to support their family. India

Lifelines and infrastructure also received catastrophic damage. In addition to food distribution by ICA, one school was constructed in the city of Petit Guave, and a second elementary school was constructed on top of the mountain. Japan Platform and the Hyogo Disaster Relief Haiti recruitment committee supported these urgent needed activities. Haiti

They continued to wait for water for 20 years! ICA completed the long-awaited water distribution system in 2012. Joy of women who had been fetching water from long distanceswas overwhelming. This project was funded by Japan Platform. The children waiting for a school lunch sincerely appreciate the support now. l Kenya
388 Youth reintegration projects in Agneby-Tiassa, Cote DIvoire Youth reintegration projects in Agneby-Tiassa. During that month, the staff worked on the second cycle of chicken farms, set up a vinyl house, and maintained the palm plantations. The village of Aboudé Boa Vincent began selling the chickens from the second chicken farming cycle, Aboudé Dadié also started their second cycle over the past15 days. For other villages they have to await the results of the Presidential elections to pass control of their chicks. The vegetable farm program continues with a vinyl house and the construction of greenhouses in two other villages. The first plants are growing well and the pumpkins have been in bloom. At agroforestry beneficiaries, they are in full preparation for the growing of beans and the installation of netting to protect the palm seedlings against rodents. We had a training session in community development, that was given by Mr. Wayne Ellesworth of ICA Japan, from September 9 to 14. This was given to the beneficiaries to help them form an action plan, and to see that they can plan their own future activities through their willingness to make a change in their community.
