149	Manchester Compact - UK.	A series of tailored half-day facilitated workshop for council officers and VCS staff, based around the use of scenarios, to be repeated around the city of Manchester, UK	The Manchester Compact was launched in September 2003, but it was felt that more could be done to raise awareness and understanding of it and promote its use. A summary booklet was being prepared, intended to help to raise awareness and refer readers to the Compact itself. However, experience of discussing the Compact with local voluntary groups and Council officers directly had suggested that a more effective means might be to work with VCS infrastructure workers and other intermediaries to support and encourage them to raise awareness and promote the use of the Compact through their work. The Compact Task Group, including representatives of Manchester City Council and the voluntary and community sector in the city, proposed the development of a tailored half- day facilitated workshop for council officers and VCS staff, based around the use of scenarios, to be repeated around the city. As a result, ICA:UK was approached by Manchester City Council in August 2006 to design and facilitate a series of such workshops. 169	Cedar Rapids, rebuilding after flooding	Cedar Rapids, ICA-USA is helping the City of Cedar Rapids use participatory processes to plan the city following a devastating flood during which a major portion of the city was destroyed and thousands of families were displaced. ICA-USA and the municipal government coordinated a 5-month Neighborhood Planning Process whereby residents identified key elements for recovering the vibrant character, connectivity,and diversity of their communities.	Cedar Rapids, Iowa is rebuilding its neighborhoods following the devastating flood of 2008 during which a major portion of the city was destroyed and thousands of families were displaced. The municipal government coordinated a 5-month Neighborhood Planning Process in early 2009 whereby residents identified key elements for recovering the vibrant character, connectivity, and diversity of their communities. They established priorities for land use changes, infrastructure improvements, and participatory procedures for local governance. Hundreds of residents accomplished this through a series of eight major planning events that incorporated ToP methods. A core group of 70 local civic facilitators, trained in ToP methods, were instrumental for ensuring the creative contributions of everyone in attendance at large events, often involving over 300 people. 204	Zambia Sustainable Agriculture Village Educator	Sstaff stay here in Ipongo, Zambia and visit an average of 50 farmers per day to work on projects like conservation, nutrition, seed distribution, food storgage, and cooperative distribution.	1. A typical farmers house in Ipongo area. For a family of 8, a minimum of 12 bags x 90 kg of maize per year is needed. However, before ICA started working in the community, there was scarcity of food in this area. Especially in the lean months of January - February. 2. The water source of Ipongo river, which supplies water throughout the year. The amazing thing is that there is more water during dry season than rainy season. 3. There are lots of trees in Ipongo area. Since these trees conserve water, protect soil erosion and improve fertility, ICA advises farmers not to log them. 4. A village road in Ipongo area. ICA staff ride motor-bikes on this road covering 12,000 people, radius of 41 km, to organize the community, carry out field visits and conduct several trainings. 5. The only clinic in Ipongo. Every Tuesday underweight children come to the clinic to eat porridge mixed with groundnut flour, which is rich in protein. Since ICA has promoted planting groundnuts, people have become aware of the importance of food legumes. 6. Ipongo is located next to Lukanga swamps. Some villagers earn their living by catching fish. 208	Youth Vocational Training Poulty , Zambia	Sustainable agriculture training in Kapini Zambia to stabilize rural life has been for a decade and has expanded to trades skills.	Life in rural areas is unstable in Zambia because of problems such as outdated agricultural techniques, high inflation rates, and increasingly frequent droughts. Sustainable agriculture training to stabilize rural life has been conducted by ICA since 1991. This training enables village people to earn income through low-cost agriculture, and more people today are interested in agricultural activities. Acquiring techniques for manufacturing farming tools suitable for small-scale farmers is also necessary to realize sustainable agriculture. In 1996, a youth vocational training center was established in Kapini village, in central Zambia. Courses in welding, carpentry and poultry rearing enable students and farmers to use self-designed and made tools rather than purchase expensive ones. This training increases the standard of living in rural areas and changes the attitude of youth towards village life and prevents them from moving to big cities in search of a better life. - ICA Japan	Zambia
209	Egypt/India Agricultural Exchange	In each community in Beni Suef, Egypt, there is a Community Development Association, and ICA Egypt has been training these associations for many years. Now the farmers in these CDAs are requesting assistance in developing small scale cattle raising.	96% of the land in Egypt is desert, and consequently desert agriculture attracts peoples attention given the population explosion in the last 20 years. The Beni Suef district is located 130 kms south of Cairo. It has little farming land because of rocky areas and the advancing desert. In each community in Beni Suef, there is a Community Development Association, and ICA Egypt has been training these associations for many years. Now the farmers in these CDAs are requesting assistance in developing small scale cattle raising. We are establishing a loan system to make it possible for these farmers to purchase and care for young cows, and training in their care. In addition, we are teaching loan system operations and financial management for the farmers. To learn new technologies in cross-breeding and milk production, four farmers traveled to India to learn from small scale farmers there what they have done to become successful cattle farmers. - ICA Egypt, India, Japan	Egypt

Within this Project framework PO EHIO s Farhang va Tarakkiyot has supported 500 of the most vulnerable households, in the Zafarabad district, with lump-sum humanitarian aid in the amount of 500 Tajik somoni per household. For this purpose PO EHIO s Farhang va Tarakkiyot performed the following important actions: Participated jointly with the local state authorities representatives, community members and Mercy Corps (MC) team, to carry out a further assessment of the communities, and initialize a second analysis of the information for selecting other communities of Zafarabad district, that had suffered the most, for the project implementation; Statistic assessment of food safety of the selected community Ravshan; Cooperated with Village Development Committees, created beforehand by MC in this district, for the efficient implementation of the program ; Worked with selected households to train them in action planning, namely, in the best use of the money provided; Were conducted training for developing individual plans of the households for appropriate use of cash; Developed an agreement with each household concerning use of the money according to the individual household plan; Made individual cash payments to the registered households; Conducted regular monitoring sessions on the use of the money, transferred to the Ravshan community; Conducted assessment of the Program on completion, for its impact and benefit. The extracted seed-oil from the native allanblackia tree provides an alternative to palm oil, which is used as a commercial production input	Local farmers in the countrys rural communities are integrating improved agricultural methods into their natural resource management strategy of non-timber forest products (NTFP). In 2008, ICA Ghana continued ongoing, far-reaching village campaigns on conservation practices, aimed to educate farmers on allanblackia harvesting. The extracted seed-oil from the native allanblackia tree provides an alternative to palm oil, which is used as a commercial production input. Whereas palm oil is an exotic species farmed as a cash-crop with dangerous social and ecological consequences, allanblackia can have a positive impact on biodiversity and local livelihoods if sustainably harvested with equitable sharing of benefits among stakeholders. Farmers engage in wild picking of the allanblackia, which helps with biodiversity conservation and sustainable agroforestry systems. 267	Soil Stabilization - Benin	Long range project working with communities in Alibori, Atacora, Borgou and Donga, Benin, to plant 2.5 million trees in three years. This project contributes to stabilizing local soils and climate, which helps communities to remain self-sufficient and maintain a healthy environment.	One important problem facing many communities is desert expansion, as desert sands are rapidly advancing their borders, affecting local ecosystems and traditional resources. Desert expansion is linked to deforestation, soil degradation, and drought, such that many communities are seeing their livelihoods threatened. The desert on the border between Benin, Burkina Faso, and Niger has been advancing more than ten kilometres per year. Along with the march of the desert comes deforestation, soil degradation and drought. To help slow this advance, ICA Benin, inspired by the United Nations Environment Programme Plant for the Planet Campaign, is working with communities in Alibori, Atacora, Borgou and Donga to plant 2.5 million trees in three years. This project contributes to stabilizing local soils and climate, which helps communities to remain self-sufficient and maintain a healthy environment.	Benin
269	Community displaced after flooding - Bangladesh	previously had no access to primary education, provided food and material aid, and made the access to safe drinking water possible. Initiated an integrated community development program in Chandpur District, Bangladesh.	GHDP is located in the Ghoramara Shelter Project area, which is home to approximately 230 families s or 1,500 people s who have been displaced and lost their land due to flooding. ICA Bangladesh is assessing the needs of the local community in order to plan visioning and action workshops. It has established school facilities, supplies, and teachers for 30 children who previously had no access to primary education, provided food and material aid, and made the access to safe drinking water possible. Initiated an integrated community development program in Chandpur District. ICA Bangladeshs community programs are mostly implemented in the village of Ghoramara Asrayan Prokalpa in Chandpur District, which is home to approximately 230 families, or 1500 people, who have been displaced and lost their land due to flooding and riverbank erosion. The ICA Ghoramara Human Development Program includes the following components in 2004-2006: Needs Assessment and Planning; Primary Education; Water and Sanitation; Food and Material Aid. In February 2008, Dhaka ICA Ghoramara introduced Dressmaking Training and Income Generation Project with 4 sewing machine for 18 disadvantaged women; Rickshaw for Employment Generation Project with 2 rickshaws and Water and Sanitation Project with two new tube-wells installed and old 8 repaired with partial support under the Working Gifts Program. Education for the Underprivileged Children Project Main aim is to provide the underprivileged children access to education, non-formal education is being provided and primary education is demanded for introduction, education materials and services are offered at free of cost, 45 children are currently enrolled. 277	Greenhouse in Bosnia	Development of large greenhouses to support local agriculture and help retain youth in Lukavac, Bosnia Herzegovina.	Within the project Support to micro-forums of citizens returnees, financed by European Commission, BOSPO donated greenhouse to the agricultural association Obnova from Lukavac which members are minority returnee population in this area. The size of greenhouse is 100 square meters and it will be used by all members of the agricultural association. The purpose of this action is to support development of greenhouse production in this area, which would lead to support of the sustainable return of people in this area. Beside the production of different agricultural products, greenhouse will be used in educational purposes for younger members of the association and the local community, which will help to develop this agricultural branch. As it is well-known, the production of agricultural products made on 100 square meters of the greenhouse is equal to the production made on 1000 square meters in the field. Cooperative Dairy Scheme A Dairy cooperative have been registered with 50 members. The farmers are taking efforts to increase the milk production with use of good quality grass to the animals. For that they need to use irrigation water to irrigate the land where the animals can eat the grass. They have also constructed the centre to store the milk. The milk container with cold storage has also provided and now currently about 200 litters of milk is collected and sold every day to Katraj Cooperative Dairy in Pune. 20 new families are being assisted through dairy by purchasing crossbred cows. Many new Dairy proposals are being processed through banks also. Animal husbandry camp was arranged to educate farmers regarding animal care and dairy management. To provide other income source to the farmers we have given 400 chicks to 20 families to start poultry business. It was helpful to increase their income level. Also provided multiple business training and guidance for 10 days to 300 women and it was beneficial to all of them. ASmall Saving Groups has started some small business from their funds such as candle making, papad making, incenses and washing powder etc. In the beginning 22 women started in groups.	India

Similarly total of 280 smokeless stoves have been provided to the families form the project area. Now that they have experience these things locally more people are willing to go for implementing these schemes next year. The beneficiary families contributed through labor work in both of these activities. The unit of Biogas was connected and the information was also shared with all participants and the people responsible. Smokeless Stoves: The smile of a small girl tells the happiness of having smokeless stove in her house. This gives full satisfaction of work done. Latrine As part of environmental sanitation 92 toilets have been constructed in three villages. The construction labor was beneficiarys contribution. 92 families are benefited through this scheme. This is probably first time that the villages will be shifting to use toilet facilities. This will develop good and hygienic habit in people which will help to keep surrounding clean and healthy. People requiring further treatment was referred to reputed hospitals in Pune. Similar Health and Environment Awareness camp was arranged during the occasion of local religious festival of Khamboli village where hundreds of people gather from other villages also. Eye checkup camp was also organized and 100 patients were examined and 35 glasses were distributed. Also operations done in this camp. Also we have organized Health Awareness camp in the new project area Kendur Village and Shirur Talika. Halton Youth Service commissioned ICA:UK in 2008 to work with a group of young people to train them in peer research and to support them to undertake an enquiry into sexual health services in Halton. The rationale for the work is to see how the current sexual health provisions for young people can be improved in order to help achieve the local targets for reducing teenage pregnancy and STI transmission. There was a team of four young people who worked on the project. The team had three young men in it and one young woman. All the young people currently attend school or college. The team carried out the project in the following stages: Training in peer research Designing the most appropriate methods of research to use Devising an online questionnaire and e-dissemination of the questionnaire Preparing and delivering a consultation focus group session to evaluate sexual health publicity Designing a set of audit questions to use for mystery shopper visits and creating appropriate characters for the visits Carrying out mystery shopper visits to local sexual health providers Evaluating and documenting the work Drawing up a list of recommendations for how local services can improve their service to young people	UK

Sheridan Rd. Built in 1921, the 166,000 squarefoot terra cotta building in the diverse Uptown neighborhood of Chicago is a gold mine of opportunity, not only for energy savings, but also for creating a living laboratory to showcase sustainable and resilient community life. Energy Efficiency Pursued In ICAs 50 year history of promoting so cial transformation and systemic change, there has grown an understanding about how environmental degradation under mines human development work. The Institute has a strong moral commitment to pursue a bold plan to retrofit the building and make it energy independent. The vision is to create a healthy, energy efficient, mixed use building for agencies and clients to both live and work in. An important secondary effect of achieving this is to demonstrate that revitalization of a neighborhood can happen without displacing people or reducing services. Additionally, during implementation, ICA will partner with the City of Chicago and tenant agencies in the building to create new clean en ergy jobs and local employment. A total of $1,200,000 in funding has been solicited and committed for various parts of this plan, including lighting, windows, facade work, safety upgrades, elevators, insulation and replacement of kitchen appliances. The ICA has committed itself to a new hot water heater, cooling system repair and a roof replacement in anticipation of putting in rainwater catchment and a living roof. Professionals have been engaged to examine the potential for geothermal, solar and wind energy. Sustainable Food Source The tenant agencies are investigating the creation of a self-sustaining, ecologically innovative building including living walls, vertical window farms and waste prevention. A team is working on how to maximize the use of plants to insulate the windows, grow edibles and clean the air. They will be designing a food production system that includes inside greenhouses, window gardens, an outdoor rooftop garden and a community garden. Also planned are lobbies on each floor with vertical gardens, a rain catchment system for the building and systems for storing excess produce through canning, freezing and drying.	USA

327	Auroville - Volunteer Tourist Town	Residents have reforested more than 800 hectares of the townships 2,000 hectares of land and turned them into an oasis for many TDEF species of plants and animals.	A little town in Tamil Nadu, India, is attracting a new kind of traveller s the volunteer tourist. Instead of lazing on the beach, shopping or touring historical sites, many of the visitors to Auroville, 160 km south of Chennai, spend their time working on the earths environmental problems. The streets of the town are filled with people from all over the world involved in projects ranging from reforestation to sustainable farming. Auroville was set up by the followers of the late Indian philosopher Aurobindo with the backing of the Indian government. The universal town has a population of about 2,000 people from more than 30 nations. Despite its other-worldly aura of spirituality, it is also involved in more practical and innovative pursuits. Prominent among them is its forestation work. The town lies in a region which was once a verdant Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest (TDEF) but is now a desert ridden with gullies and ravines. Since Auroville was founded in 1968, its residents have reforested more than 800 hectares of the townships 2,000 hectares of land and turned them into an oasis for many TDEF species of plants and animals. In 2008 and 2009, work focused entirely on Diepsloot, a township of approximately 160,000 people where some 70% are under or unemployed. Diepsloot is on the northern edge of Johannesburg, 24 kilometres from the city centre. Global Studio subsequently developed working relationships with Diepsloot Local Government, the Community Development Office and local community groups. Community dialogues and research identified major issues with respect to information and communications, housing, the environment, and 1. Diepsloot women learn to insulate their shacks. 2. Student-community collaboration to fix leaking drains the importance of arts and culture - in the form of visual arts, music, dance and theatre. In a communication-poor township strategically located community chalkboards provided messaging centres, and a meeting place. With advice from local communities, students developed a method of insulating peoples corrugated iron shacks, and passed on the skills needed to do this.Drainage and sanitation provided major environmental challenges. Throughout the most densely settled reception area there are prefabricated concrete toilets, built in pairs, with a water standpipe and semicircular drain attached to one wall. Leaking drains, an ongoing problem through blockages caused by food wastes, were solved with an inexpensive and ingenious double sieve system made out of plastic paint buckets. .	South Africa

They recalled what has happened in their villages since the flood of 2008, then listened to a Planetary Evolution talk. For the first time, they deeply understood how the world is rapidly changing. They realized their very existence here depends upon creating a new future. We all learned the steps necessary to change our lives, using the Octave of Learning system. The Economic, Social, and Educational Principles of Community Development had a resounding impact, especially the Village Educational Principles. They have school buildings, but the teachers are sub-standard, and the children from the project’s pre-schools are teaching their teachers and their parents! Consisting of brief presentations, large and small group dialog, meal conversations, time for personal reflection, short contextual readings, and secular-spiritual rituals, the four sessions can be exhilarating, intense, transforming and celebrative. 368	The Learning Basket	The Learning Basket parenting series is a series of two-hour sessions for parents of infants and toddlers that emphasize nurturing the learning potential of both children and adults.	The Learning Basket parenting series is a series of two-hour sessions for parents of infants and toddlers that emphasize nurturing the learning potential of both children and adults. The Learning Basket materials were developed by the Institute of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with Proliteracy Worldwide. The materials include a literacy manual, Parents are Teachers; the Play to Learn activity book which includes over 100 developmentally appropriate parent and child activities; and a hand-woven basket containing 18 objects, which complement the activities in the Play to Learn book. Each interactive session is designed to draw forth the involvement and encourage the leadership of the participating parents. The sessions are designed around the understanding that functional literacy involves developing competence in the use of the foundational skills of reading, writing, and voicing ideas and opinions. In addition to these foundational skills the model emphasizes developing confidence in one’s own cultural values and practices; the capacity to do critical thinking and problem solving; and the ability to take on responsibility to put ideas into action. Sessions are guided by Learning Basket parent session guides who employ an interactive teaching strategy based on the learning philosophy of Paulo Freire, Malcolm Knowles and Carl Rogers (1961); and drawing from the research of Taylor, Marienau, and Fidler (2000), Belenky, Bond, and Weinstock(1997) Packard (2003), and others. The sessions are designed around the theme of parenting and child development. In each session, participants engage in and lead conversations on themes in the Parents are Teachers literacy manual. In addition, session guides present key information about the effect of play on the development of the learning capacity of young children. Parents and guides also demonstrate play activities using the Play to Learn activity book; and each session includes play time with the children. Parents earn the objects in the Learning Basket through their attendance at each session.	USA
371	HIV/AIDS work in Kenya was expanded to Ikalaasa Location	In 2008, work in HIV/AIDS in Kenya was expanded to Ikalaasa Location in Mwala District adjacent to Muthetheni Location where work has been ongoing since 2003. From 2003 – 2006 in Muthetheni Location, 500 people were trained in HIV/AIDS prevention education; 205 accessed VCT and 35 people who are HIV+ were trained in Positive Self-Management. It is estimated that over 7000 people were reached during that time. The population of Mwala District is 90,000 people in 17,000 households. The HIV prevalence rate is estimated to be 5.9%, an increase since those infected are being treated with ARTs. Current work is primarily in Ikalaasa Location.	Results of Interventions An evaluation report conducted in March 2009 indicated that: People in the community have changed behaviors, perceptions, attitudes and beliefs and are living more responsibly. Stigmatization for people living with HIV (PLWHA) has been significantly reduced. People know their status and have begun to take control of their lives rather than just surviving. Those in the Positive Self-Management groups have tools to be in control of their condition. 700 people in Mwala District receive ART and need Positive Self management Training. District health office has increased village interaction, including mobile testing campaigns. There is mandatory testing and education about mother to child transmission for pregnant women in clinics. ICAK HIV/AIDS prevention education also creates awareness. Methods and Tools Baseline information about HIV and AIDS in community provides information to design the program. Prevention curriculum was reviewed and revised in 2007 and Positive Self- Management training manual was reviewed and revised in 2010 to be relevant and focused on the community. Staff was trained in curriculum: ICAK has three trained personnel and two community resource persons able to deliver prevention education and Positive Self-Management trainings. Neighborhood community groups of 15 – 20 are trained, monitored and evaluated. The director received train-the-trainer training in PSMP from Stanford Relationship with Health System The relationship between ICAK and the Mwala District Health Services has been good and prevents duplication of efforts. ICAK is a member of Mwala District Health Stakeholders Forum. Ministry of Health staff conducts mobile volunteer counseling and testing (VCT) in the communities with the assistance of ICAK staff and community resource people. ICAK works in ministry satellites where people living with HIV and AIDS receive ART and VCT to conduct PSMP training with PLWHA. Lessons Learned: Community involvement in HIV/AIDS trainings is very important. Do needs assessment and baseline studies to guide community knowledge and behavior Community resource persons are key to sustainable projects. Empowered people living with HIV/AIDS are the best ambassadors to train others living with HIV. VCT facility and/or testing should be provided in the community so everyone knows their status. Partnership and collaboration is important for any development organization that will make an impact in development work.	Kenya
377	Zimbabwe and HIV Aids	50 small and medium enterprises have been launched resulting in income for welfare and education.	In 2002 ICA Zimbabwe launched the HIV/AIDS program focusing on prevention in Mufakose District, a peri- urban area outside Harare, with 4000 families directly involved, resulting in extended impact to 40,000 people. The HIV rate was 24%. In 2003 Rotary International became a partner. In 2007 a needs assessment in five communities – Mufakose, Kambuzma, Budiriro, Rugare and Crowborough North – resulted in a three-year program launched in 2009 called Hunger, Humanity, and Health (3H) which focuses on business development, savings, youth training, HIV/AIDS awareness training and Living Well. The program evolved based on the needs identified in the communities. During that time, 50 small and medium enterprises have been launched resulting in income for welfare and education. More people go for HIV testing, resulting in increased HIV/AIDS knowledge. In 2007 alone, 700 disclosed their HIV status. The high levels of stigmatization in marginalized communities hinders many from accessing medication due to fear of being rejected.It is for this reason that Leadership Training and Integrated Development takes the initiative to empower people living with HIV by equipping them with positive Self management skills so that they live comfortably and positively	1.WATER LTID has helped Ngomano Community reduce the distance to water points for 180 households from 5kms to 2kms by construction of sub surface dams which serves as a great water reservoir to Ngomano Community. 5. 2.FOOD SECURITY: LTID has improved access to food for Ngomano Location from one meal per day to three meals throughout the year. This has been achieved by trainings offered to the community on dry land farming methods, provision of drought tolerant food crop seeds,farmers have been involved in improved poultry rearing and improved goat rearing. 6. 3.HIV and AIDS. LTID has been offering HIV and AIDS prevention education training to Ngomano Community. In addition LTID facilitates access to Voluntary Counseling and Testing Services through mobile VCTs. Those people living with HIV have been trained on Positive self management and are taking charge of their health by living positively. 4.SELF HELP GROUPS. Village savings and Loaning Association (VSLA) through self help groups in each village has given the women voice and power to manage their saving by LTID. All the household basic needs are catered for at the self- help group level.30 self help groups have been established in Ngomano Location. 8. LTID distributes 30 male goats to 15groups in Ngomano Location. The goats are meant for Local goats upgrading. LTID distributes Ken brow chicken to Ngomano Community.	Kenya
392	Doctors Professional Development, Mongolia	We recently began two projects in Mongolia. The first is the continuing professional development of doctors. We invited all the important stakeholders from the Ministry of Health, central hospitals and professional medical societies to a three-day strategic planning workshop. We got a great result. Many of the participants wanted to learn facilitation skills. Now we are training 20 of them to conduct participatory workshops for cultural and systemic change at their hospitals.	We have learnt that Mongolians, a nomadic people who value freedom, challenge and change, love discussions. For people who had been passively following top-down directions in the hierarchical culture, the sessions provided a release. They took an active part in discussing each focus question, and talked about their wishes, problems and the system. They enjoyed the process and were surprised to see that their discussions actually produced an outcome. They saw the power of participation! The facilitators were proud of what they had accomplished and were eager to use these processes in other settings. We plan to hold a Facilitation Festival in Mongolia at the end of this year to share and celebrate what they have accomplished. We believe we can establish an IAF chapter or ICAI associate member in Mongolia some day.	Mongolia

Although the result was good, there was evidence of a �blame culture� and a �lack of thinking� prevailing at the institution.	To change this and improve ownership and commitment to the project, we decided to do an Appreciative Inquiry (AI) workshop. About a quarter of the professors, numbering 150 and aged between 30 and 60, were invited to the event entitled “Inspiring the Spirit of Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences”. The topics were strengthening the educational system, setting up a research university and promoting a positive culture. We designed an appreciative interview guide, asked the professors to interview each other and published their findings in “The Book”. The three-day workshop was held at a hotel in Ulaanbaatar in June. It used the 4-D cycle of AI: discovery, dream, design, and destiny.First, participants reviewed “The Book” in 15 groups. Each group found positive cores (hidden, under-utilised strengths and assets) from the book and illustrated them by drawing “positive core maps”. Some of the images that appeared in the map reflected Mongolian culture: the Sun, a Ger (traditional Mongolian house), Snow man, Eagle. For the dream phase, each group envisioned what things would look like five years later. To portray the change, they created a news brief, a skit, a dance and a song. They then put on a performance for the rest of the participants. You could see they really enjoyed “acting as if dreams came true”. They had difficulty in the third phase – creating design principles (principles on how to innovate the system, relationship, communication pattern etc.). We gave them copies of two of ICA’s analytical charts – the Map of Organizational Journey and the Social Process Triangle, which seemed to help. It was the first time we had done this in the design phase of AI workshop, but it worked very well. For the fourth and last destiny phase, participants voluntarily reorganised themselves into other group formations and made plans for action. This three-year project has just begun. However, thanks to the ICA technology and the AI approach, we have built a positive culture and set up ownership and commitment of the members of partner institution. It’s now really a Mongolian Project, not a Korean Project.	Mongolia
